Dyogo Oliveira, the president of the Brazilian Confederation of Insurers (CNseg), had a busy schedule today in Santiago, Chile, helping connect the Brazilian insurance market with other Latin American countries. In particular, he presided over an international launch event for the 38th Western Hemisphere Insurance Conference (#FIDESRio2023), which will take place from September 24 to 26 2023, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
“More than 1,500 participants are expected. It will be a valuable opportunity to network, update your knowledge and make business deals with the biggest insurers and reinsurers in Brazil, Latin America and the world,” Oliveira said during a cocktail reception for more than 150 guests in the financial district of Chile’s capital city.
This important conference is an opportunity for the insurance sector to come together on a large scale after the pandemic. “During the conference, we will explore topics such as Open Insurance (a movement that Brazil is spearheading), digital transformation in the insurance market, ESG initiatives and the global macroeconomic situation. The agenda of FIDES Rio 2023 is aligned with CNseg’s guidelines and its role in the Brazilian insurance sector, which is to promote its institutional image, stimulate its development, encourage integration between regional markets and carry out research and education programs related to insurance,” he said.
New players
Oliveira, a former Brazilian planning minister, has been repositioning CNseg on the international insurance stage, bringing in new players to help generate new business for its members. The event’s schedule is under construction but it is already known that it will feature global leaders, renowned international experts and government officials from Brazil, the rest of Latin America, Spain and the United States.
In Chile, CNseg’s president has been meeting with business people and officials at insurance trade associations, the Chilean investment promotion agency, the insurance and financial regulators, and companies that export and import goods and services. The country has a sophisticated insurance ecosystem, supported by society as a whole.
Paulo Roberto Soares, Brazil’s ambassador to Chile, emphasized the size of the Brazilian insurance industry when talking to Chilean business people at the cocktail reception, urging them to attend FIDES’ conference in his hometown, Rio, in September 2023.
Great business potential
According to Soares, Chile has great business potential for Brazil’s insurers, as it has per capita income of US$28,000 and a population of 20 million. “In 2021, Brazilian insurers accounted for 41% of insurance sales in Latin America, or US$151 billion, up 11.4% from 2020. There are certainly many business opportunities that can be discovered by participants during FIDES Rio 2023,” the ambassador said.
Rodrigo Bedoya, the president of the Inter-American Federation of Insurance Companies (FIDES), said that 2023 represents an opportunity to meet up again, socialize, discuss key trends in the coming years and do business. “No environment will be more conducive to this than FIDES Rio 2023, which aims to be the biggest Ibero-American platform for business and networking in the insurance sector,” he said.
